Andrew Goodwin

Andrew Goodwin identified a number of concepts which are often used in music videos:
1. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics (e.g. stage performance in metal video, dance routine for boy/girl band).
2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals
(Illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).
3. There is a relationship between music and visuals
(Illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).
4. The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style).
5. There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, telescopes, etc.) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body.
6. There is often intertextual reference
(To films, TV programmes other music videos etc.).
I found this information from:

He states that music videos often have a link between the lyrics, video and also the artist. The close ups are used in order to create publicity for the singer/band. Voyeurism is used to increase the sex appeal in a music video, particularly toward males. Intertextual references are usually used mostly in comical music videos.
The link between the lyrics, music and video is going to be amplified throughout our video to exaggerate someone’s feelings. Close ups are going to be used on our band members and the main boy and girl in order to amplify their feelings and emotions throughout the song/video. Voyeurism is going to be used to increase the band member’s sex appeal which would make it more appealing to the female audience which is slightly contradicting because it’s usually used to attract males.
